超新星/초신성

Cho Shin Sung is a South Korean boy band formed under Mnet Media. Its six members specialized in the areas of singing, dance, acting, rap and pop. Since debut, the group gained popularity in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and other East Asian countries.

Choshinsung fans use various versions of the group’s name in different countries. In South Korea, the group is known as Choshinsung, while in Japan they are known as Choshinsei, in Chinese known as Chao xin xing, and in English Supernova. Their name translates as “Supernova”. The name “Supernova”, meaning an explosion of a star emitting luminosity far greater than that of the sun, was chosen from a list of numerous fan contributions. All the members are over 180 cm tall.

2009

On September 14, Choshinsung collaborated with T-ara to release a digital single, “T.T.L. (Time To Love)”, a hiphop song with electronic sounds. Among the members, only GeonIl, GwangSu and JiHyuk, together with T-ara’s SoYeon, HyoMin, EunJung and JiYeon were involved in this project. During the month of September, the seven of them actively promoted the song on the various music shows. A remix version of the song, “T.T.L. Listen 2″, was released on October 9, with the MV featuring all the members from both groups. Even though the rest of the members (from both groups) did not have active parts in the remix version, all 12 participated in the song promotions from October onwards.

Choshinsung made their Japanese debut in September with three singles released over three consecutive weeks: “Kimidake wo Zutto”, “Hikari”, and “Superstar ~Reborn~”. The first two singles are new releases, while “Superstar ~Reborn~” is a Japanese remix of their Korean single “Superstar”. They released their first Japanese album, titled Hana, on October 21.

Cho Shin Sei (超新星), also known as Choshinsung, is a Korean pop / dance boys-band that debuted in October 2007 with their album 「THE BEAUTIFUL STARDUST」 in South Korea. Since then the group moved to Japan and signed with Universal Music Japan. They debuted in September 2009 releasing 3 singles in 3 consecutive weeks starting on September 09, 2009 with 「キミだけをずっと」 (kimi dake wo zutto), followed by 「ヒカリ」 (hikari) released on the 16th, and finally 「SUPERSTAR~REBORN~」 on the 23rd. The singles were quite a success, all charting in top 20 on Oricon charts with 「キミだけをずっと」 peaking at #7. A month later, the group released their first Japanese album entitled 「HANA」 which featured the 3 singles and 7 other tracks compiling a total of 10 songs. Unfortunately, the album did not share the success of the singles and peaked outside of top 20 at #23.

In 2010 the band began their new era, releasing their 4th single 「Last Kiss」 in January. The single features a cover of a big hit by the popular Japanese band GReeeeN 「愛唄」 (Ai Uta) featuring backup vocals from a recording artist ERY. The single fared well on the charts peaking at #9 selling 9,734 copies – the band’s highest first week sales. Wasting no time, Cho Shin Sei released their second Japanese album 「★★★★★★」 in March only after one single. The album includes a total of 7 songs including 「Last Kiss」 and 「愛唄」. The album reached #25 on Oricon.

After releasing 2 albums and 4 singles in a time period of 6 months, the group shows no signs of slowing down. The band is set to release 3 new singles in May in 3 days. 「まごころ」 (magokoro) will be released on the 12th, 「ALL ABOUT U」 on the 13th, and 「J.P. ~REBORN~」 on the 14th of May.
